What differentiates MS Learning from other tutoring centres is that we analyse and cover full novels, rather than only short texts or snippets of a novel. By doing this, we are able to practice writing full essays that simulate the essay exams we receive at school.


Another aspect I like is that lessons follow the structure of creative writing, essay writing and short text analysis. Since these three components are the foundation of school-based assessments and the Year 12 HSC exams, I like that the work I'm doing will prove useful for school.

Even before MSL, I was still achieving high marks in school. However, once I joined, I was able to apply the teaching easily to my assessments and consistently keep up the high marks.

I have been with MSL for almost a year and found that the tutor's approach in teaching is different but very effective as it isn't just one straight meeting of the tutor talking endlessly.


I have time to attempt different tasks and questions on my own so I can gain confidence in my own abilities. Then, the tutor will work through it with me and give me detailed feedback so I know how to improve.

For English, a lot of the essay writing I have been learning at MSL has been really helpful (and much clearer) compared to what is taught by my school or other tutors I’ve had.


For example, MSL has taught me how to deeply analyse quotes and raise complex arguments in my essays about human nature and the human condition.

For Maths, the variety and multitude of resources MSL has provided has been especially useful when learning new topics or preparing for exams.


In each lesson, the tutor thoroughly goes through the content and explains formulas and strategies for different types of questions.

I then get to practice applying what I’ve learnt to questions of all difficulties so that I have the confidence and a thorough understanding of the subject when approaching it at school or in school assessments.


The tutor is also very helpful with any questions I have from my homework or schoolwork, and there are revision tests and quizzes at the end of each topic to test our knowledge.

I have gotten straight A+ results for all of my English assessments this year (we aren’t given a specific mark for English) and 80-90% for my Maths assessments so my abilities have definitely improved.


I can comprehend and easily navigate school assessments now as I am more prepared for them and not scared by any harder or new work. It is also easier to stay consistent with my Maths and English practice because of the MSL homework I am given each week.

I’ve been at MS Learning for nearly a year now (since I was in Year 8). I like the way our class is structured as it’s a private class with only two of us and the tutor. I feel like I can focus better in this more personalised environment, which I don’t often see in most coaching centres.


I also like how we do more analysis and in-depth studies of texts for essays than what I normally do in school as I feel like the content I study in school doesn’t really help me improve my analysis skills and prepare for upcoming assessments.

I don’t feel very confident with my English skills so far, and I do feel like there is much improvement to be done, also considering compared to a lot of my peers in my year, I feel average. However, looking back on last year I definitely feel a change in my analysis and overall writing that I wouldn’t have achieved without tutoring.


A specific thing that I find helpful about MSL is regularly having some sort of guide and an exemplar piece to sort of show me what is expected to get a good mark. I also appreciate having a wide range of texts and text types (e.g. poems, images, different types of assessment questions) to practise on as it helps me learn how to adapt and change my analysis.





Since joining MSL, my English assessment marks
have increased to around 80-90% each term.

Overall, I am very happy with MSL. I have been with MSL since November of 2022, a total of 9 months so far. I like many things about MSL. Specifically, I like how my tutor always approaches classes with an optimistic attitude and keeps it up for the entirety of the lesson. I really like this aspect about her as it gives me the energy to do well and not be too tired in the lessons.


MSL is the first tutoring experience I have had but based on what my friends say about their tutors, I feel MSL is pretty good in comparison. Additionally, I'm also really fond of how the homework isn't overwhelming like other tuitions and can be completed with a reasonable amount of time.​

I have found everything that MSL has taught me incredibly helpful. However, if I had to be specific, I particularly benefited from the additional study tips given to me, like how to memorise information and how to not procrastinate.


Currently, I can definitely say I feel more confident than when I first started English tutoring. I have been able to apply what I have learnt with MSL to my schoolwork in things such as analysis, creative writing, and essay writing. Particularly, in my second assessment of Term 2, I received very positive feedback from my teacher in regards to my analysis skills. The lessons have been very helpful. I previously didn’t have a very concrete way to study for legal but now with MS learning, I have been able to grow in my skills and be more motivated to study.


Learning about essay structuring has been especially helpful - I have learned that I have a tendency of just reciting content and failing to make effective analysis. Now, with the structure that MSL has given me, I am now able to make concise and somewhat skillful analyses.

MSL has shown me that I have gaps in some areas of my notes, and I need to be more concise when writing as I tend to ‘waffle on’.


I now find myself really enjoying Legal topics like International Crime and Human Rights. I have only attended one term so far, but I am surprised at how much I still have to learn.

I have really appreciated learning with MSL in Year 11 and 12 because my tutor has been able to pick up on my weaknesses and help me improve. We have also done a lot of writing practice, which allows me to implement my tutor’s advice and get updated feedback about my writing each week.



Specific things I found helpful include learning about essay writing and creative writing structure, learning to implement literary and visual techniques into my critical analysis, linking my analysis to the stimulus and organising my notes for school.

How many good teachers have you come across in your lifetime?


Throughout primary school and high school, I was constantly switching tutors and feeling unsatisfied with how they taught me. Tutors would often spoon-feed me answers when I was stuck, rather than give me the chance to think on my own.


They also showed very little concern about the speed of my progress. This led me to change between many tutors until I came to MSL.

Ironically, my previous tutor was a high school English teacher. With MSL, I no longer needed to look for a “better” tutor.


Ultimately, a good tutor will make you realise that, no matter how inadequate and hopeless you feel when you fall behind, the fault does not lie with you but rather how you have been taught. You’ll know that the tutor is the right fit when they can break down complex tasks to make them look easy and bring you up to speed fast.

I wish there were more teachers like that in school. The way MSL taught me has not only helped with my studies but with my future and uni. In all honesty, I was lucky to have found MSL. Although I was not a model student, they helped me to achieve my ultimate goal.

Two years ago, I was not performing well in English at my school. I was an average C-grade selective school student and needed help so I joined MS learning at the start of Year 9. I chose not to study maths as I was confident in maths.


However, as my school marks for maths started to drop, I decided to also join maths tutoring towards the end of Year 9.


Over the two years I spent with MS Learning, I saw that my skills, confidence and grades greatly improved.

Unlike other tutoring centres, MS Learning focuses on more than just marks and always aims for perfection in all areas. They want students to aim for the highest level whether it is inside or outside of school.


Although my grades improved through MS Learning, they also helped me build up skills useful for when I leave school. For example, one of the tasks I was given was to write a cover letter for a job and I was also encouraged to find a casual job to gain experience.


MS Learning not only set me up for the HSC but for life afterwards as well.

MS Learning also gave me skills which a school could not have given me. One of the key skills I gained was independence. Before MS Learning, I barely thought for myself and mostly relied on teacher’s notes to get myself through schoolwork.


However, once I joined MS Learning, they told me that I had to think for myself as when I left school, there won’t be anybody to help me so readily.


Throughout my two years at MS Learning, I developed skills which helped me think independently rather than relying on others.

Overall, MS Learning has helped me enormously over my two years studying there. Not only have my grades improved but I have also been instilled with attitudes and values that will help me for life.


I believe that these attitudes such as hard work, perfection and independence will not only help me for my future years in school but also after school.

Other tutoring centres are exactly the same as schools where they provide you with answers in order to boost your grades. However, in MS Learning, they train you in a way that will improve your grades while also teaching you lifelong skills.

Q: Your son, Yahya, has been with MSL since Term 1, 2013 (Year 6) for Maths and English. Why did you get extra help for him?


A: Yahya had fallen behind in his studies and could not focus in class. He struggled in simple tasks and we became worried as parents. We had no choice but to find help for him.

Q: In what ways has our program helped you / your child so far?


A: The program helps us to establish a routine which we find useful and clever. We can monitor his progress every day. It helps Yahya to organise his work and continue learning after school.


It was really hard in the beginning for him to focus and finish all the tasks but now he can easily handle the workload from school and tuition. We are starting to see more improvements in his work, however he still needs to do more.

Q: We have seen and heard a lot of talk in the media about the benefit of homework. From your experience with us, how do you feel about homework?


A: Yahya has done too little homework for so long that he has lost interest in studies, the ability to focus and willpower to sit down and do work even for a short time.


The homework enables him to think, solve problems and improve his writing. He still struggles at times but at least we can see that he is more responsible and tries harder now.

Q: What do you think makes a good tuition centre?


A: Showing tough love to make things right, like parents, is a good sign. For us, that is critical as we do not want to waste any more time and need something that works. We knew how MSL operated, through a friend, before we joined them.

I remember how I was afraid of Maths and therefore paid very little attention to it when I started with MSL two and a half years ago. I used to blame the way we were taught.


What we do in school, I suppose, is the same as everywhere else – listening to a teacher, copying down some notes from the white board and practising some examples from the text book.


Nothing wrong with that if you can comprehend 100% of it, or if you have a good teacher who has the time for every student, or if you are already miles ahead like some of the top students.

Every year, I used to hope for a better teacher who can help us understand and learn more.


Of course we were not so lucky and therefore little problems that you sweep under the carpet start to add up until the day your brain just goes blank when you see anything that appears challenging.


Now I am a lot more self-sufficient and confident, even if the question is a page long. I don’t have that sinking feeling as soon as I see anything challenging.

My Maths results are still not perfect though, as I make a lot of careless mistakes. The difference now is that I can actually say I know everything that we learned but I need to put in a lot more effort.


My challenge now is to work harder because I want to get a perfect score. I know what I have to do to achieve that. After many easy-going years, you tend to take everything lightly. You become unmotivated in life and unconcerned about the exams or results.

Then suddenly you are forced to face the biggest challenge of your life in Year 12. I have no choice but to try harder now.


Change is difficult. My training now is more than just about my technical skills and abilities. I need to change my attitude and the way I work. I am starting to work harder and put more effort into my work now.


Luckily, time is on my side. I still have a good chance to achieve my goal.

I have been with MSL long enough to understand why their training works. I think they are different, committed and difficult to measure up to. You can get a lot out of their training program if you are serious and willing to work hard.


I would definitely recommend MSL to any students who need help.

I joined MS Learning in Term 1 this year. I had a shaky foundation before I started tuition.

Areas such as simultaneous equations are a lot easier for me now and I can get 100% for them easily in exams.

In a classroom at school, Neil's teacher has 30 students, each with different abilities, rates of learning as well as individual strengths and weaknesses.

A: We feel what makes a good tuition centre is one which asks for feedback and provides updates and feedback to parents and students.

Q: Now that you have experienced group tuition, do you still have reservations about it?


A: We feel effective learning requires some level of class interaction and discussion which cannot be done on a 1-to-1 tuition.


Group tuitions offer a better and more conducive environment for a more meaningful discussion.

Learning Maths is not easy especially when it involves problem-solving. As a parent I find it difficult to help Samantha, in Year 4, to understand and analyse a problem before even attempting to solve it.


I am really glad MS Learning is putting most of the effort in teaching the techniques to solve different problems instead of spending time to do endless number of questions for homework.

This training style is very different from others.


I find that MS Learning also covers each area in greater depth which helps her to understand better and attempt more difficult questions.


Similarly for English, MS Learning concentrates on Writing, which Samantha found difficult and took a long time to finish a paragraph.

Speaking well does not translate to easier writing. Proper training has definitely helped her to write about more complicated topics such as racism.


I have monitored Samantha's progress through one and a half years of training with MS Learning. Now she has a strong desire to study and is able to concentrate longer.

It is really a pleasant surprise to see a change in Jack in less than one Term. He is more confident in Maths which gives him the 'Can do' and 'It's easy' attitude now.
